Thin And Fat Again-A Hobbit's Song

The Hobbit is finally out!!

It is no secret that I am a Tolkien fan. The Lord Of The Rings is wrought of a language laden with quotables, but for me the one closest to my heart is this:

Aragorn: Gentlemen! We do not stop 'til nightfall.
Pippin: But what about breakfast?
Aragorn: You've already had it.
Pippin: We've had one, yes. But what about second breakfast?
Aragorn stares at him, then walks off.
Merry: Don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevensies? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he?
Merry: I wouldn't count on it Pip.

For I too, have gained my sillhouette from religious submission to a hobbit's mealtimes. And thence, do I finally find relevance in Adam Levine's lyrics. Perhaps the lipstick bit doesn't mesh perfectly, but for every other rhyme, the resonance is harmonious and most meaningful. There is an ongoing battle with weight, whereby the instruments of war are my Merida and the treadmill. So, in 21-platter salute to all those who struggle against that one last morsel, come on and anthem with me:

"One More Night"

You and I go hard at each other like we're going to war.
You and I go rough, we keep throwing things and slamming the door.
You and I get so damn dysfunctional, we stopped keeping score.
You and I get sick, yeah, I know that we can't do this no more.

Yeah, but baby there you go again, there you go again, making me love you.
Yeah, I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go.
Got you stuck on my body, on my body, like a tattoo.
And now I'm feeling stupid, feeling stupid, crawling back to you.

So I cross my heart and I hope to die
That I'll only stay with you one more night
And I know I said it a million times
But I'll only stay with you one more night

Try to tell you "NO!!" but my body keeps on telling you "YES!!".
Try to tell you to "stop", but your lipstick got me so out of breath.
I'll be waking up in the morning, probably hating myself.
And I'll be waking up, feeling satisfied but guilty as hell.

Yeah, but baby there you go again, there you go again, making me love you.
Yeah, I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go.
Got you stuck on my body, on my body, like a tattoo.
And now I'm feeling stupid, feeling stupid, crawling back to you.

Yeah, baby, give me one more night
Yeah, baby, give me one more night
Yeah, baby, give me one more night

Yeah, but baby there you go again, there you go again making me love you.
Yeah, I stopped using my head, using my head, let it all go.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

  2. It has become my favourite for now. I was a good boy for ten days till up to my recent aircrew medical, you know, cycling to shave down my weight and pep my fitness for the ECG. After all was done, and faint from the all-night fast for the blood test, I stopped by at Kanna Curry House in Petaling Jaya and swooped down on a good-sized lunch before setting course for home. As I drove back from KL, I was listening to Mr Levin whoo-hoo away and wondered why the words kept haunting me but not with melancholia. That's when suddenly it all clicked.

  3. *giggle giggle*...what a coincidence.. I was just listening to the song in my car radio moments ago and I was enjoying the words but with different meaning hahaha.. until you gave it a new meaning LOL....ahh but don't we all have this 'battle' with too much food especially the yummy ones like what you displayed here. I better run before I start singing that song..LOL.

    Stay cool..:)

  4. We are rarely united by our sorrows, as each person finds his or her own tragedies unique unto themselves, almost like nobody else would understand their pain. But in music and in food, do we fall together in one mass rythm, and nobody will dispute the good in a decent table or an infectious tune.

  5. Hi,
May your Home be warm, Your Holidays grand
And may your Heart be held gently in the Lord’s hands.
Merry Christmas to you and family.

  6. Hmmmm....aren't we lucky to have this love hate relationship with food. You are not alone in this battle. The anthem you choose makes the guilt even harder to defeat.
